Dey Alexander | Dey lives in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, where she works as a usability specialist, improving the effectiveness of websites and applications. Photography became a hobby with the advent of digital cameras. She recently upgraded to a digital SLR camera and snapped the koala photo while staying at a house appropriately named "Koala Cottage." It actually had several koalas living near-by.

Peter Batty | Though born in the United Kingdom, Peter now lives in Denver, Colorado, USA, where he works in the software industry. He has traveled to over thirty countries and is a keen digital photographer. Peter especially enjoys wildlife photography.

Kitch Bain | Kitch is at home in Perth, Western Australia. Photography is his passion and images are his obsession. In Australia he is surrounded by the most amazing visions from coast to desert, from sunrise to sunset. When the opportunity presented itself to explore photography, he found his calling. His subjects extend from landscapes and seascapes to wildlife.

Angela Bell | Angela lives in South Hurstville, near Sydney, NSW, Australia, where she works as a copy editor at a local newspaper. Photography has been her hobby since childhood. She took the photo of her featured koala because it looked so contented napping on a mild winter's day. Her other interests are critical thinking, Zen, and the crime novels of Raymond Chandler. Her main contact with Australian wildlife is to feed a flock of rainbow lorikeets that visit her every day.

Marcus Biel | Marcus lives in Augsburg, Bavaria, Germany, where he studies computer science. Marcus took an internship in Brisbane where he had the opportunity to photograph the Queensland koalas shown in this book. Among his hobbies are photography, water sports, skiing in the Alps, going to the movies, and playing board games.

Nick Brightman | Nick lives in Sheffield, England, where he works in the catering and hospitality industry. While vacationing on Kangaroo Island, Australia, which is known for having koalas, kangaroos, wallabies, penguins, echidnas, sea lions and dolphins, he expected to find koalas asleep. Instead, Nick caught the rare sight of a koala walking on the ground.

Luc Boucher | Canadian by birth, Luc lives in London. Luc and his German wife Dominique recently spent their honeymoon in Australia. The highlight of his visit was watching the koalas wake up. Their serenity captivated him and drew Luc into their world. Luc hopes his pictures convey the way these animals felt at ease with each other and their surroundings.

Ross Carswell | Born in Essex, UK and now living in Charlestown, New South Wales, Australia, Ross enjoyed photography class in high school. Ross steadily began acquiring his most favorite things: "Saturday night boots, rock records, camping gear, a Winchester, a Pentax, a Land-Rover, a girlfriend, and then a family." Through the years, Ross has acquired a great love of the country and the extra-special animals and texture of the Aussie bush.

Brian Cassey | Brian is a news photographer based in the northern Australian tropical city of Cairns. His clients are newspapers, news agencies, and magazines both in Australia and worldwide. Brian has just returned from covering the Boxing Day tsunami in Southeast Asia. He took his koala photos on Kan-garoo Island—the only area where koalas suffer from overpopulation and the ensuing lack of food trees.

Andrew Chan | Andrew makes his home in Coopers Plains, Queensland, Australia. A medical practitioner by trade, Andrew is a prolific part-time photographer specializing in nature and wildlife subjects. Through his photography, Andrew aims to share the amazing creatures we often take for granted.

Wenling Chan | Wenling lives in Kowloon, Hong Kong. He is an undergraduate student with emphasis on architecture and astronomy. Koalas are one of his favorite animals and he finds, "they are so cute." Wenling believes they are the most peaceful, gentle, and innocent animals in the world.

Frank Chang | At home in Ottawa, Canada, Frank has traveled throughout US, Canada, Europe, Asia, and Australia. Seeing his world through the camera lens, he photographs a wide variety of subjects. In addition to taking pictures, Frank enjoys outdoor activities such as cycling, running, hiking, and cross-country skiing.

M. Scott Cole | Scott lives in New Jersey, USA and is an Emmy Award winning video editor for the CBS television network. He has edited for both CBS Sports and 60 Minutes. Scott's interest in photography started in high school, but soon video became his primary passion. When digital cameras came of age, Scott rediscovered photography. His hobbies include cooking, scuba diving, computers, as well as video post-production.

Kevin Connors | Based in New Jersey, USA, Kevin is a school teacher and digital photographer. Thanks to being an educator, he is fortunate enough to get a lot of time-off to devote to his travels and to taking photos around the globe. As a part-time photographer, Kevin sells many prints of his photographs.

Ray Cote | Ray is an avid photo enthusiast from Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin, USA. He feels lucky to have a wife who is supportive of his pursuits. When not busy capturing sports images, wedding portraits, or nature shots, Ray will unwind at two unlikely places: the gym and his computer. Before Ray took his delightful pictures of a koala, it had been sleeping for most of the day. Ray caught it at the exact moment it woke up and began to stir.

Lucy Crosbie | Lucy lives in Otley, West Yorkshire, England, where she works as a project manager for Web, digital, and interactive projects. Lucy is an avid amateur photographer with a love for illustration, graphic design, and surfing the web. Lucy lives with her partner Mark and her little shitzu, Midge.

Mike Davies | Mike is based in Heywood Lancs, United Kingdom, where he is employed as an accountant for a vacation company in Manchester. Working in the travel industry has enabled Mike to take several holidays each year. His koala photos were taken in Sydney, on a trip which also took him to Bangkok and Singapore. Mike loves playing sports and all kinds of music.

Wilmar Dik | Based in Den Haag, Netherlands, Wilmar is a professional travel photographer with over 7,500 photos from around the globe to his credit. For him, photography is not just about a push of a button, but rather a feeling that must be fed. That coincidental sunbeam, the perfect cloud, the right angle, time, and place are essential aspects present in all of his photographic endeavors.

John Dominé | Based in San Francisco, California, USA, John works as a kindergarten teacher besides being an avid part-time photographer. John studied Animal Science at the University of California at Davis and has a particular affinity for koalas and Australian animals. His extensive photographic works consist of diverse subjects ranging from animal and travel impressions, to food and macro photography.

Daniel Dy | Daniel lives in Quezon City, Philippines. Photography is one of his greatest passions in life. To him, it is an art with a subtractive process, whereby reality can be refined into a personal vision. He enjoys taking photos of animals, people, and abstract close-ups of ordinary objects. He uses digital enhancements to capture the emotions he feels while tripping the shutter.

Joanne Ehrich | Joanne lives in San Mateo, California, USA, where she works as a graphic designer, with emphasis on print-, Web-, and user interface design and as an illustrator. She has attended photography trade school and holds a University degree in printmaking. Joanne has created numerous etchings, lithographs, monotype prints, as well as paintings of animals and landscapes.

Susan Flashman | Based in Hallett Cove, South Australia, Susan works as a webmaster for several non-profit organizations, including MS South Australia and the Corabarclay Deaf Centre. She has created several Australian wildlife photography CD ROMs, enabling her to raise money for numerous charitable organizations, including the Childhood Cancer Association of South Australia.

Tamara Fletcher | At home in Sydney, Australia, Tamara loves to travel and most recently drove some 12,000 kilometers across beautiful rural Australia. Tamara is an avid hobby photographer who prefers traditional film to digital technology, and she owns an impressive collection of vintage cameras.

Andreas Frank | Andreas lives in Munich, Germany, where he works as a physics engineer. Andreas is fascinated with both technology and nature. He finds that photographing animals offers him a great way to combine his two loves. Although his is photo was taken in the Vienna zoo, he has been fortunate enough to have seen koalas in their natural habitat when he visited Australia before.

David Freund | David is a professional photographer living in East Lismore, on the beautiful North Coast of New South Wales, Australia. His local area has one of the largest koala populations in Australia. His sleep is often disturbed by the loud mating calls of koalas. Although koalas occasionally visit his backyard, his photo was actually taken in a wildlife park.

Lydia Gartner | Lydia has recently moved with her family from Brisbane, Queensland to Cairns, Far North Queensland. Her main interests in photography revolve around macro-, landscape-, portraiture-, abstract- and wildlife subjects. Lydia hopes to one day publish a quality book of her photographs to share the glorious beauty of her big country.

Richard Giles | Based in Kensington, Western Australia, Richard works in the telecommunications industry as a self-confessed marketing expert, geek, gadgeteer, and user evangelist. His current passions center around digital liberties, networking, podcasting, his wife Kilee, and daughter Mia.

Geoffrey Griggs | Geoff lives and teaches English in Japan. While visiting Australia with his students, he and three Japanese teachers visited a wild animal park. In letters to their hosts in Australia, many students mentioned petting a koala as the highlight of their trip. The teachers were equally captivated.

Eric Hanson | Eric is at home in Aledo, Texas, USA, where he works as a prolific visual media designer and hobby photographer. His expertise lies in the field of graphic design, user interface design, Web management, and illustration.

Chris Hume | Originally from Antrim, Northern Ireland, Chris is based in Buckinghamshire, England, where he works for a Christian missionary society. He tries to spend his spare time walking, bird watching, and snapping photos but admits that birds can be a frustrating subject to photograph. Chris also enjoys exploring Great Britain's amazing castles and historical sites.

Joanne Harris and Daniel Bubnich | Joanne and Daniel live in Perth, Western Australia, where both attend University. They love to make time for photography when not studying. Some of their favorite places to take pictures at are Kings Park in Perth City center, and Caversham Wildlife Park, which provide great opportunities to get up-close to native Australian wildlife.

Susan Harris | Born in the USA, Susan moved to Australia after marrying her Australian husband in 1982. Together, they have raised two children who are now grown and gone. Susan loves photographing birds, Australian wildlife, landscapes, and the inner world of flowers.

Keith Heinrich | An engineering technologist by trade, Keith resides in Brisbane, Australia. He uses the camera to share with friends and family what he sees around the world. Having traveled extensively, Keith is always amazed at how unaware people are about what happens in their own towns every day.

David Hewett | David lives in Bentleigh, Victoria, Australia. His hobbies include music, reading, playing online computer games, and photography. While he has had a number of cameras over the years, he has discovered digital photography only fairly recently. David took his image of a koala at the Phillip Island Koala Reserve. This was actually the first time that he has ever seen a koala so near.

Gavin Horn | Born in Edinburgh, Scotland, Gavin and his wife live in Cambridge, England. Gavin is an accountant who recently spent a year working, traveling, and photographing in Australia, New Zealand, and the South Pacific.

Patrick Houlihan | Dr. Houlihan lives in Arkadelphia, Arkansas, USA, with his wife, Jill and daughter Rebecca. He works as a music professor, teaching music theory, composition, and electronic music. He has received grants and awards from the National Endowment for the Arts, the Rockefeller Foundation, the New Orleans Contemporary Arts Center, Meet the Composer, and many others.

Della Huff | Although Della lives and works in Boston, Massachusetts, she grew up in San Francisco, California, which is still close to her heart. She took her featured photograph at the Sydney Koala Park. Della has always been intrigued by Australian fauna and felt this joey was so precious.

Vicky Huyskens | Vicky was born in Belgium and now lives near Edinburgh, Scotland with her British husband. Vicky has traveled extensively through South America, Asia, Australia, and Europe. Vicky shot her koala photos in Cairns. She had never seen koalas before and says that, "watching them cuddled up with each other on a tree and was so beautiful," that she could have sat and watched them forever.

Joe Iera | Born in Canada of Italian heritage, Joe lives in Windsor, Ontario, Canada. His parents immigrated to Canada in 1970. As a graphic designer, Joe practices Web design and programming, graphic design, as well as photography. Joe loves soccer and hockey. He feels that as an Italian-Canadian, "to not enjoy those sports would be punishable by death."

George Ihring | George lives in Sydney, Australia, where he runs a design company. He produces visual communications materials and photographs for promotions and website animations. Photography is one of his many hobbies. George would like to add that, "Life is short, so you better be nice to people who have the guts to do what you dream of."

Albert Ip | Albert is based in Balwyn North, Victoria, Australia. He is the executive editor of one Australian magazine and the founding director of another. As a practicing "e-learning" professional based in Melbourne Australia, he is also known as "Mr. Fablusi" for his work in creating the role-play simulation platform for teaching and learning. Albert enjoys taking outdoor photographs to balance his desk job.

Fred Kamphues | At home in Holland, Fred has developed an interest in photography at the age of five. His subjects cover the entire world, with Australia being one of his favorite destinations. His portfolio includes approximately 30,000 images of Australia, Austria, Canada, Chile, Costa Rica, France, Holland, Iceland, Indonesia, Italy, Morocco, Spain, Switzerland, Thailand, UK, and the USA.

Chung (Dino) Kang | Chung lives in Houston, Texas and attends the University of Houston. In his spare time he enjoys computer video games, Brazilian jiu-jitsu, and photography. Chung wishes to mention that he is a practicing Christian and vegetarian.

Allan Kilgour | Allan lives in Rotorua, New Zealand. As a keen traveler and photographer, his subjects range from animals and landscapes to astro photography. His image was taken at the Coffs Harbour Koala Park while on holiday in 2005. He has contributed to various online stock photography resources with his images appearing in numerous publications and websites.

Joe Kucharski | Joe lives in Union, Ohio, USA, where he works part-time as a professional photographer as well as a computer technician. He snapped his koala photo in a park outside of Brisbane during a family visit in Australia. While the park had koalas for people to view in enclosures, his particular photo was taken of a wild koala that had climbed up-high into a palm tree, away from all the other koalas.

Heidi Kugler | Heidi lives in Columbus, Ohio, USA, where she works as a business systems analyst, but her real love is koalas. She has collected koala memorabilia for over 30 years and has fulfilled a lifelong dream to see koalas in their natural habitat in 2001. She had a glorious time observing and holding koalas in different locations from Kangaroo Island to Brisbane.
